Taking care of your console is absolutely necessary if you want it to last forever. There are people out there who still have access to their PS1/PS2 and PS3 because they used their console with care.

In this guideline, I will explain how you can turn off your PlayStation 5 properly.

So keep reading till the end to get your desired fix.

Can power outage damage PS5?

Yes, a power outage can damage the PlayStation 5. A sudden electricity outage can corrupt the data drive or can damage the power supply permanently. Also, if there is a thunderstorm going can and there is a sudden power outage, that can fry the PlayStation 5 for good.

You cannot just directly turn off or plug out anything. That will damage the device in the long run. Power surges may cause data loss on electronic equipment, such as during a power outage, and repeated surges can lead to faulty hard drive patches. On the other side, once the power is restored, the main danger starts. Equipment may be damaged or destroyed if an excessive amount of voltage surges through the power cables.

Voltage spikes are the result of an increase in power consumption. When there are power outages and changes in electrical demand, surges may be caused. This may involve the demands of other equipment that is linked to the same power distribution network.

If you see a sudden surge in electricity, there are several possible causes behind it. The most typical reasons are electrical overload, poor wiring, lightning strikes, and power restoration after a power outage or blackout.

The most significant threat to a PlayStation 5 is an abrupt shutdown after a blackout. The greatest danger comes from files in the system itself. This might happen during a system update or any other time when a crucial file is being updated by the operating system and the power goes off suddenly. This corrupted file is encountered by the operating system when you try to restart the PlayStation 5, and it fails to boot.

A power outage may not even be the end of your difficulties, which is far worse! When the power is restored after an interruption, it is common for a surge to occur. During a power outage, your PlayStation 5’s dashboard circuitry will be overloaded and can eventually be damaged.

In the event of a power outage, the subsequent surge may cause considerable damage to a power supply or motherboard. In the event of a power outage, the console will not be able to turn on.

Because of this, if you wish to protect yourself against a power outage, you need also to have power surge protection. In order to protect your PlayStation 5 from a sudden power outage, buy a UPS that will give you enough time to turn off the PlayStation 5 properly.

To keep your PlayStation 5, invest in a good surge protector that will take care of the sudden voltage spikes. Also, when there is a thunderstorm going outside, turn off the PlayStation 5 and unplug all the wires from your PlayStation 5 that will keep your PlayStation 5 safe from any upcoming spikes in voltage. Sometimes your Ethernet cable can also fry the PlayStation 5. So it is always better to unplug everything when there is a thunderstorm out there or when there is a frequent power outage in your area.

At the end of the day, your PlayStation’s well-being depends on you. The more careful you are, the more time the console will serve you. So be a good master of your loyal servant.

  • Press the PS button on your dual sense.
  • Go to the bottom right of the pop-up menu.

  • Select turn off ps5.
  • Wait for the white light beam to turn off.

When we turn off the PS5, we do not wait for the PS5 to shut down entirely. It takes about 15 secs or more to turn off the PS5. If you switch off or take out the AC cord before the white light stops, your PS5 won’t shut down properly. And you will see the error “PS5 was not turned off properly”. So be aware of that next time.

You can also turn the PlayStation 5 off without using the dual sense. With this method, you don’t even have to look in the monitor or tv to switch off your PS5.

The more probable question would be, is it safe to keep the PlayStation 5 in rest mode?

Well, that depends on the usage. If you are downloading games but not actually playing anything on the P5, then put the PS5 in rest mode. But do not do this every time you are taking a break from your PS5. If you are not going to use it for a long time, switching it off is the wise thing to do.

  1. This happen to me & my PS5 won’t turn on at all. No safe mode, nothing. It just beeps then stops even trying to start up. It’s 6 months old & I care for it properly, ect. I’m having a tech guy look at it but I fear it’s toast. The worst part is that I will lose all my save data, this includes over 500 hours of Elden Ring. I’m trying not to lose it!
