Buzzing sounds are always irritating, but when it happens to your PC, this sound will make your heart beat faster. Like others, if you are a victim of this problem and searching for its solution in the darkness.
It’s time to bring an end to your search because you will find the actual causes and fixes in this article. So, read to the end line and fix the problem.
Let’s begin!
Why Do Computers Freeze with Buzzing Sound from Speakers?
If your PC has BIOS-related issues, a computer might freeze and create a buzzing sound. An overheated CPU can trigger this issue too. Old thermal paste, CPU voltage, or overclocking can make a CPU heat excessively. Sometimes faulty hardware and driver issues are also responsible for this problem.
This is a common problem when you are playing high hardware demanding AAA titled games on your mid-level gaming PC. When a PC fails to cope with a heavy load, it crashes at that instance.
Sometimes backdated BIOS or malfunctioned BIOS is responsible for freezing the computer with a buzzing sound. Not only that backdated sound and display driver with malfunctioned hardware is also liable.
These are the main causes behind this problem. Now you know what provokes this issue; let’s jump into the fixing part.

How to Fix Computer Freezing and Makes Buzzing or High-pitched Noise
Fixing is a must when the problem is serious. To fix the problem, you should know the core problem. As I have said before, several reasons like BIOS, overheated CPU temp, and driver issues can make your pc to a freezing state. At that time, you may hear the additional buzzing sound.
So, without further ado, let’s jump into the fixing part. Just follow the above methods and steps carefully to fix this matter asap.
Here are the methods to fix computer freezes with buzzing sounds:
1. Update BIOS
BIOS (Basic input/output system) is a program stored in the EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). Microprocessors use the BIOS to Start the computer system when it is powered on. So, BIOS is very crucial for a PC.
If BIOS settings are changed accidentally, it may cause this type of problem. Try to look for any settings that you may have changed. You can also restore the BIOS settings if you fail to find the changes.
Another factor is that BIOS is outdated. That’s why it can’t keep up with the latest Windows OS. However, updating the BIOS is not child’s play. Don’t update the BIOS if you don’t know how to do it. Take your PC to a technician.
You may need to change the BIOS or replace the motherboard in case of any issues occur while updating it.
Still, if you decide to update the BIOS for yourself, please check the BIOS version first. To check your PC’s BIOS version from your Windows 10 or 11, follow the below steps.
Here are the steps to check the BIOS version from Windows 10/11:
- Open the Run by pressing the Windows key + R.
- Type msinfo32 and hit Enter key.
- Click System Summary. Look for BIOS Version/Date and SMBIOS Version
- Check the BIOS version.
Alternately, you can also check the BIOS version by using the CMD. Just open the CMD from the RUN and type wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion. Press the Enter key, and you will get the detailed BIOS information.
After checking the BIOS version, go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest BIOS. Next, put the BIOS in a flash drive or click directly on the file to update the BIOS.
Note: Please follow the manufacturer’s BIOS updating procedure. Different motherboard brands have different methods of updating the BIOS.
After updating the BIOS, check whether the issue still exists or not.

2. Check the Physical Health
Checking the PC’s physical health means checking the CPU’s temperature, issues with CPU or RAM, or looking for HDD/SSD problems. Like human body organs, these are the organs of a PC. If anything goes wrong with one, it will affect the overall system.
That’s the time you will face the computer freeze with a buzzing sound. So, check the physical health of your system to find out which one is triggering the issue.
Check CPU Temperature
When CPU temperature rises above the safety limit, it will immediately shut down itself.
Sometimes the CPU will freeze due to high temperature with a buzzing noise. Check what makes your CPU temperature skyrocket. Check for thermal paste; change the paste if it’s too old to pass the temperature to the heatsink.
Moreover, passing over-voltage to the CPU cause system freezing. Check for the current CPU voltage. Reduce it if the voltage is high. You can install the HWMonitor app to check your CPU core temperature.
Don’t do overclocking all the time, it will damage your CPU soon. Also, clean the casing or other components because dust clogs the airflow. The CPU temp will rise without proper airflow inside the case, and you will see the computer freeze.
Additional Tips: Check for malware in the system too. Malware is prone to making the CPU run at 100% all time, which makes the temp high and causes a freezing system. Run antivirus from time to time to check for viruses.

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Checking for memory issues is also important to fix this problem. Faulty RAM might cause system failure, and that’s the main reason your computer freezes. To solve this problem, you will need to find the RAM problem first, and Windows Memory Diagnostic tool is perfect for this.
Here are the steps to run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool:
- Search for Windows Memory Diagnostic tool from the Windows Search.
- Open the app by clicking on it.
- Click on Restart now and check for problems (recommended).
After clicking on this option, Windows will restart, and a diagnostic memory screen will appear. Just leave it as it is, and you will see a progress bar. It will take several minutes. After the process is completed, you will see a status message.
If any problem is found during the process, you will see that in the status message. Solve the problem or replace the RAM if needed.
Check HDD or SSD Problem
Along with RAM, you should check the HDD or SSD issues too. To do so, you can run the Windows check disk utility. The process is quite easy.
Here are the steps to run chkdsk tool:
- Click on the Windows search icon and search for CMD.
- Click on the Run as administrator option.
- Type chkdsk /x /f /r and hit Enter.
- Press Y to continue after getting The volume is in use by another process.
- Restart the PC.
The scanning process will start, and you will see a scanning percentage. It will take a few minutes but depending on the HDD or SSD size. If any problem is found, it will fix it automatically.
3. Update Display and Sound Driver
Backdated display or sound driver might cause computer freezing with a buzzing sound problem. Because when drivers get old or outdated, they can’t keep pace with the latest updated Windows OS. That’s the time you get to see the issue with the annoying buzzing sound.
So, updating both the display and sound drivers will solve the problem if that’s the case provoking the issue.
Here are the steps to update the display and sound driver:
- Press the Win key + X button and click on Run.
- Type devmgmt.msc in the RUN dialogue box and hit Enter.
- Click on the Display adapters expand button to select the integrated graphics.
- Right-click on it and choose the Update drive
- Click on Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Make sure the box is checked for Show compatible hardware.
- Choose the Integrated graphics and click on the Next button.
After that, the device manager will install the updated driver automatically. Follow the above steps again to update the sound driver, but you have to click on the Audio inputs and outputs expand button this time. Then select the appropriate sound driver to update.
Note: If you have a dedicated GPU, go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver. After downloading the file, install it.
I hope updating both the display and sound drive will fix the computer freezing problem if that’s the main culprit. Follow the next method in case this fails to solve the issue.

So, make sure to clean all the temp files when you are facing a system freezing issue.
Here are the steps to clean temp files from the system:
- Press the Win key + R and type temp in the RUN program.
- Hit the Enter key and the Windows Temp folder will open.
- Press Ctrl + A to select all files and the Shift + delete button to delete all the selected files.
- Close the folder and open the Run program again.
- Type %temp% in the Run dialogue box and click on the OK button.
- Select and delete all the files from the Appdata’s Local Temp files.
After deleting all the temp files from the system, the memory section will free up. You won’t face the problem again because you have cleaned up all the clogged temp files.
5. End Background Process
Like temp files, sometimes a vast number of background processes can create this issue too. When too many background processes run, they can interfere with each other and freeze the system.
You should end the unwanted process to fix this issue triggered by many background processes.
Here are the steps to end the background process:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
- Click on the Processes tab.
- Look for which backgrounds app may cause the problem under the Background process section.

Note: You can also choose F5 or the number 5 key to run the PC in the Safe Mode with Networking. This option will allow you to use the network or internet while in Safe Mode.
It will be easy to look for what is causing the problem because only a limited number of apps and hardware are functional.
If you still have the computer freezing problem with the buzzing sound, it’s a hardware issue.
7. Look For Faulty Hardware
It’s high time to look for faulty hardware after applying all the above methods failed to solve the issue. The probability of Faulty hardware being the main culprit is high. So looking for the malfunctioned hardware is the number one priority now.
If you’re using a desktop, open the case and look for frayed wire. Even a frayed wire can cause this problem. Check whether the RAM is installed correctly or not. Unplug the RAM and install it again.
Have any GPU in the rig? Take off the GPU and install it properly again. You can also run the system without the GPU. If your system runs fine without the GPU and falls into the same problem with the GPU, then the GPU itself is the main problem maker.
It’s time to replace the GPU. Also, check the PSU and other components. Make sure you have checked every hardware component thoroughly. Changing faulty hardware will solve the problem for sure.
