What Is Turbo LAN

Turbo LAN is an app that shapes your internet traffic. You can set different bandwidths to different apps according to your priority.

Using multiple apps that require internet running at the same time can slow down your internet speed.

And because of this, you will have a laggy experience. With the help of Turbo LAN, you can give the highest priority to the app you want to run smoothly, such as your games and streaming apps.

If you are a competitive online gamer, you know how much damage high ping can cause to your game. Thanks to Turbo LAN, you don’t have to worry about ping anymore; your games will run smoothly throughout the whole session.

Turbo LAN is seen in motherboards named cFosSpeed, and Asus has named it Turbo LAN.

Get Familiar with Asus Turbo LAN Interface

Turbo LAN has a straightforward interface, and the options are easy to understand. asu-turbo-lan-interface

When you launch the application, you can see your Maximum Upload and Download Speeds at the top left of the interface, as well as the upload and download speed of your Current Connections beside it.

You have VoIP, Media Streaming, Games, File Sharing, and Other options on the left sidebar. These will allow you to prioritize your internet bandwidth based on a specific category.

These options also have a menu that you can use to give priority to a category according to different criteria. You can emphasize particular apps temporarily or permanently.

Turbo LAN can also help you restrict yourself from spending too much time on a game or app by limiting the internet usage time for that program.

There’s also the traffic analysis feature to help you keep track of everything regarding the internet. You can decide which apps to connect to and monitor each app’s internet usage.

You can see your monthly internet usage from a graphical representation and analyze the data.

All these features give you a lag-free experience when playing games by allocating your bandwidth.

How Asus Turbo LAN Works

Asus Turbo LAN lowers the ping, stops the apps that are losing packets excessively, and restricts from spending too much time online by limiting the internet.

The Turbo LAN shapes your internet traffic by splitting data packets into traffic classes. It achieves this in multiple ways.

Here are the different ways the Turbo LAN works:

  • It emphasizes internet traffic based on layer-7 protocol, DSCP tags, or port numbers.
  • It increases transfer rates and reduces pings by reconstructing data packets.
  • This program scans your internet speed by connecting a driver to the operating system and drives all internet data packets to flow through that additional driver.
  • The software identifies when a particular application tries to hinder another application so it may become faster. Turbo LAN then rebalances the application and returns it to the previous state.

How Effective is Asus Turbo LAN

Yes, all these features are great, and all, but not everything works according to what it is supposed to do. So the real question is, does cFosSpeed, aka Turbo LAN, really work?

Well, in 2018, Christoph Lüders & Christian Carazo conducted research to answer this particular question.

First, they measured the base ping and the ping during download and upload without any cFosSpeed, then measured the pings again with cFosSpeed installed. And compared the results.

Here’s what they found:

During DownloadDuring Upload
Min. PingMax. PingAverage PingMin. PingMax. PingAverage Ping
Without cFosSpeed15.486ms49.045ms26.162ms99.338ms111.835ms105.07ms
With cFosSpeed 9.713ms53.004ms15.343ms8.888ms114.14ms19.999ms

When downloading, the ping was 3.2 times lower, and when uploading, the ping was 9.8 times lower. So, you can clearly see that cFosSpeed can lower your ping considerably.

Advantages of Turbo LAN

Using Asus Turbo LAN, You can modify your internet speed. No more lags when playing games as Turbo LAN can provide all your bandwidth on the games and have a smooth experience.

Here are some benefits you will get with the Asus Turbo LAN:

  • RX sharing: It minimizes pings, especially when downloading, to prevent these programs from slowing down others.
  • Minimizing packet loss: If the program notices excessive packet loss, it prevents packet loss by closing TCP receive windows.
  • Low-latency mode: This mode allows you to modify the traffic shaping features. It’s ideal for online games and Voice over IP. On the other hand, depending on your needs, you can turn on the Favor bandwidth or Favor ping time options to customize bandwidth or reduce ping.
  • Firewall: Turbo LAN also works as a firewall to protect from unprotected ports and packets and online attacks. The software allows you to change the limitations depending on your requirements.

Disadvantages of Turbo LAN

Turbo LAN is filled with exciting features that gamers adore, but it’s not perfect.

Some users have stated that Turbo LAN does the opposite of what it’s supposed to do and lowers their download and upload speed. They reported that this program puts more pressure on their system instead of improving their internet usage.

Some users also believe Turbo LAN eats too much RAM and CPU resources and slows down their computers.

Here are some issues you might encounter due to Turbo LAN:

  • Turbo LAN might be incompatible with other programs.
  • It might hang/crash frequently.
  • Antimalware programs might find it as a harmful or malicious application.
  • The app might not appear on the Control Panel or the main screen.

How To Download & Install Turbo LAN

Besides all the great features that the Turbo LAN provides, you might install it for other reasons, such as when upgrading your OS from Windows 8 to Windows 10 or Windows 10 to Windows 11, and you receive the message that you need cFosSpeed to upgrade.

If you use an MSI device or an MSI motherboard, installing the Turbo LAN is pretty easy as the Dragon Center app will automatically install it for you.

Here are the steps to download Dragon Center & install Turbo LAN:

  • Open your browser and go to the MSI Dragon Center download page.
  • Select Download Now, and a .zip file will be downloaded.
  • Unzip the file.
  • Open the setup file to install Dragon Center.

In case your system cannot install the application correctly, try to install the beta version. After the installation is complete, you’ll see a status window at the bottom right corner of your screen.

How To Uninstall Turbo LAN

Uninstalling the Turbo LAN from your Windows 10 computer is a straightforward process. You can uninstall Turbo LAN like you uninstall other applications.

Here is the procedure to uninstall Turbo LAN:

  • Select the Search icon from your Windows taskbar.
  • Search for Control Panel and open it.
  • Go to Programs > Programs and Features.

  • Open the Turbo LAN installation folder; for me, the directory is C:\Program Files\ASUS\Turbo LAN.
  • Look for uninstall.exe and double-click on it.
  • Go through the uninstallation process.

But this process might not be the same for some users as the Turbo LAN is not an ordinary program; it’s more of a motherboard driver. If that’s the case, you should restore your system to remove all Turbo LAN components.

However, if you use an MSI motherboard, you can easily uninstall the Turbo LAN from the Dragon Center app, which should already be installed on your computer.

In case you don’t have the program, download Dragon Center, install it, and log in with your account.

Here’s how to remove cFosSpeed for MSI motherboards:

  • Launch Dragon Center.
  • Scan your PC to find all the applications installed on your system.
  • Select cFosSpeed.
