Here are the steps to connect a single AirPod to your Phone without the case:
- Put the AirPod in your ear.
- Swipe up from your iPhone Home Screen to access the Control Center.
- Turn on Bluetooth
- Long press the Bluetooth Icon>Tap the Airpods
- Click outside of the window twice
- Tap the AirPlay icon in the Audio Card >Select the AirPod (the earpiece on your ear) from the list.
There are two possibilities for the AirPod not showing in the device list.
- The AirPod you want to connect isn’t previously connected with your iPhone.
- The AirPods battery is low.

How to Pair AirPods to iPhone for First Time
If you didn’t connect the AirPods with your iPhone previously, the device would be unknown to the Phone’s OS. And you can’t connect that unknown AirPods without the charging case. So for the first time, you need the Case to connect the AirPods to your iPhone.
Here are the steps to connect AirPods to iPhone first time:
- Put both your AirPods into the charging case.
- Keep the lid open.
- Swipe up your iPhone’s home screen.
- Press and hold Bluetooth Icon.
- Long press the Setup icon.
- Tap connect option in the Not Your AirPods window.
- Press Continue.
By executing the steps, your AirPod is connected to the phone, and you will see the AirPods on My device even if you disconnect them.
As the AirPods are listed in My device, you can connect any of the two AirPods without a case. But for the first time, you need the case to make your new AirPods known to your iPhone.
