So, why is Discord not connecting to the call?

Discord has its own protocol platform which helps it maintain concurrent communication with Discord’s native server, and it’s users. But Discord cannot connect to a call when it cannot link up with it’s server because of any network issues.

But other issues related to the network also block Discord from connecting to a voice call. Don’t worry; I will share my findings with you and show you how to resolve this problem.

Stay with me and read the whole article to find the solution to your problem.

How to Fix Discord NOT Connecting to Call

I’ve mentioned the issues that might interrupt Discord from connecting to the internet and leave you stuck on the connecting screen.

You’ve seen that several reasons cause Discord not to connect to a voice call. Now, you have to go through the reasons and apply the solutions below accordingly to find and fix the reason causing you trouble.

Here are the steps to fix Discord not connecting to a call:

1. Disable Proxy Servers

Proxy servers block the internet connection of the Discord app.

So, make sure that proxy servers are disabled in your internet settings.

Follow these steps to disable proxy servers:

  • Press Win+R key and open Run.
  • Type cpl inside the box and press Enter.
  • Go to the Connections tab of the pop-up window and click on LAN settings.
  • Put a checkmark on Automatically detect settings, and uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  • Press OK to apply the settings.disable-proxy-servers

2. Change VPN

As I told you before, Discord uses the User Datagram Protocol, and it only connects with proxy servers that use UDP.

Also, if you’re using a VPN for Discord, make sure that it supports UDP. You can’t join in a voice chat without the UDP support enabled inside the VPN settings, and Discord will keep showing you RTC Connecting.

3. Use a Stable Internet Connection

Check your internet connection status before making a voice call in Discord.

Unstable internet connection sometimes costs in RTC Connecting problem. Check your router for any troubleshoots and try to fix them. If necessary, restart the router and see if the problem still occurs.  Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to resolve any connectivity issues.

You can make an exception for the Discord app to your Antivirus software.

Or, you can disable your antivirus temporarily to see if the issue still appears. Based on which antivirus you use, you can find the procedure on their respective websites.

Why is Discord Stuck on RTC Connecting?

RTC Connecting means you’re connecting to the voice call. When you try to call someone in Discord, It uses the VoIP method to connect your calls, and if there’s an issue regarding your network connection, it gets stuck and shows this message.

As I’ve told you before, Discord calls get interrupted by network issues and show you the RTC Connecting message. But it never connects with the voice chat servers and leaves you hanging.

Various other reasons related to your internet proxy settings, Discord’s default voice settings cause RTC Connecting issues.

The issues that might cause Discord not to connect calls are as follow:

Enabled Proxy Servers

Proxy servers hold back Discord from connecting with it’s server from the user end. Enabling proxy in your internet settings may be the cause of your problem.

The proxy servers add an extra layer on Discords connection to the internet, which ultimately delays discords connectivity and response with the user. It can be flagged as a lousy internet connection and results in Discord not connecting to calls.

Unsupported VPN

Discord has some specific requirements to run smoothly on a device. I told you that proxy servers hamper Discord’s connection with it’s users.

Discord mainly doesn’t support VPNs. However, if you need to use one, make sure that it has UDP support. Discord doesn’t run on a VPN without this feature.

Unstable Internet Connection

If your internet connection is not up to the mark, you’ll continuously face issues like not connecting to a call. Discord needs a stable connection to perform its tasks smoothly.

A faulty or slow internet connection causes trouble performing native processes of the Discord app. A voice call in Discord has many other processes running alongside it. If the essential services fail to run because of connection issues, you’ll be more likely to be stuck on the connecting call screen.

Discord Server Settings

Server settings are applicable for all the members of a server. You can’t perform a task that’s not allowed in the server settings.

If the server settings disallow voice calls, you can’t make a voice call. However, if you cannot make a voice call because of the server region, contact the server administrator and request changing server region.

Antivirus

Sometimes, antiviruses can flag Discord’s files as potential malware and delete those files. Without these files, there could be various issues; the inability to connect to a call is one.

In most cases, the Discord voice call service is interrupted by antivirus softwares. Some antivirus apps consider Discord’s files as virus/malware and quarantine them automatically.

IP Configuration

Dynamically changing the IP configuration of your device will potentially flag your account as a harmful one to the Discord server admins. You’ll get banned from various activities of the server

Avoid changing the IP address frequently and reset or format the IP configuration; it’ll reset the IP to your default address and hopefully settle any issues with Discord servers.
