Can PS5 do 4K 60FPS with ray tracing?

PlayStation 5 cannot do 4k 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled because of hardware limitations. However, some games can hit 60 FPS on 4k with ray tracing enabled.

The PlayStation 5 features AMD’s RDNA 2 GPU architecture, which is equal to, if not superior to, the RX5700 XT. It has 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM and the new Xtreme Bandwidth architecture. It has a peak performance of 10.2 TFLOPs and supports the latest ray-tracing technique.

The PlayStation 5 cannot output 60FPS on 4k resolution with ray tracing enabled. Hardly any graphics card out there can pull that off. If not 3080TI, maybe, but you also need to spend big for other PC parts to get 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled.

PlayStation 5 only can run games in performance mode or the quality mode. You will get the highest FPS in performance mode, sometimes cutting down the resolution or ray tracing. In quality mode, you will get a ray tracing option with fantastic visuals with the limitations of FPS.

For instance, In Assassins creed Valhalla if you are playing in performance mode, you will get around 60 FPS on 4k but with no ray tracing. But if you play on quality mode, then you will get around 30 FPS in 4k with ray tracing enabled. Xbox series XIS runs similarly.

But some games are cutting the Ray-Tracing option to run the games at 4k 60 FPS. Far Cry 6 is one of them. It might be a bummer to some people, but for me, I can cut it out for smooth 60 FPS because, with HDR, the game will look great on 4k 60 FPS. I also believe in the future, with more software upgrades, PlayStation 5 will have 60 FPS at 4k with Ray Tracing.

  1. What an incredibly overhyped status symbol the PS5 is. Impossible to find at MSRP yet still a weak toy. Even Sony sees the need to port their games to PC so owning a PooStation5 is only for people who make poor purchases!
