Follow the steps below to see how to take a poll in Microsoft Teams during a discussion: 

  1. Open the Microsoft Teams app.
  2. Join in a conversation. 
  3. Click on the Forms icon on the toolbar or click the three-dot menu if the forms icon isn’t there. 
  4. Choose Form among the apps. 
  5. Click on More apps and search for Form if you can’t find it. 
  6. Click on the Add button to open the editing options. 
  7. Type the question in the Question field. 
  8. Type the answers or choices in the Options field.
  9. Click on Add Option to add new options. 
  10. Toggle on Multiple answers’ switch if you want multiple answers. 
  11. Click on the Share results automatically after voting option if you want the participants to know the results. 
  12. Click on the Keep responses anonymous option if you want the participants to be anonymous.

How to Take a Poll in Microsoft Teams During a Meeting

In the previous section, you saw how to create a poll in Microsoft Teams during a chat discussion. Now you’ll learn how to create a poll in Microsoft Teams during a live meeting. 

If you’re a presenter in a meeting, you’ll most likely avoid wasting your time creating a pole during your presentation. But, It’s good to sharpen your weapon before the war. So, I suggest you create a poll before and publish it during the meeting.

So, here are the steps to take a poll in Microsoft Teams during a meeting: 

  1. Open the Microsoft Teams app.
  2. Go to your Calendar.
  3. Click on New Meeting at the top of the screen.
  4. Type a name for your meeting in the Title field.
  5. Set a time and date to schedule your meeting.
  6. Click Save to schedule your meeting.
  7. Click on the Scheduled Meeting on the calendar.
  8. Click on Edit under the meeting name.
  9. Click on Chat beside meeting name in the meeting details tab.
  10. Click on the + sign on the top-right corner.
  11. Click on Forms in the Add a tab window.
  12. Click on Add to add Microsoft Forms in your meeting.
  13. Click Save to preserve the changes. 
  14. Click on Polls at the top of the screen from meeting options. 
  15. Click on Create a new poll
  16. Write your question and answers in their respective fields. 
  17. Customize the pole by choosing whether to share the results with your teammates after voting, keeping the participant’s identity anonymous, or allowing others to co-author the poll. 
  18. Click on Save to preserve the poll, and there’ll be a poll icon inside the meeting after creating a poll. 
  19. Click on Launch inside the poll tab to publish the poll for voting during the meeting. 
  20. Click on View Results in the Polls tab to see voters with their voting option. 
  21. Click on the down arrow next to View Results and select Close Poll to end the survey. 
  22. Click on the down arrow next to View Results again and select Export results to download the poll results. 
  23. Go to the download section in the Files app of the Microsoft Teams to see the poll result Excel file.

Now you’ve successfully created and published a poll inside a Microsoft Teams meeting. But, you’ve to keep an eye on some things while creating a poll. I’m listing them below for your better understandings: 

  • After creating a poll form, participants will see a pole icon at the top of the meeting screen. If they click on it, they can see the draft poll but, no one can vote yet. 
  • If you’ve turned the Allow Others to Co-Author option on, other organizers and presenters can edit the poll. 
  • Before sharing, click the down arrow icon next to Launch and select Edit Poll to edit the poll. 
  • Click on the Create New option to create other polls in the Poll tab. 
  • After launching a poll, participants will get the question and options as a notification in the middle of the meeting screen. 
  • You cannot force the participants to vote in the poll. There’s no way to do that. But in the result file, you’ll see the participants.

How to Take a Poll in Microsoft Teams Using Third-party App

Taking a poll in the Microsoft Teams app is a great way to get the opinions of your teammates and associates. Unfortunately, the Microsoft Forms’ pole-taking feature is only available if you’re a premium user of Microsoft Teams.

  1. Open the Microsoft Teams app.
  2. Join in a conversation. 
  3. Click the three-dot menu. 
  4. Click on More apps and search for Polly.

You can create a poll in Microsoft Teams using third-party apps like Polly. Inside a Microsoft Teams conversation, click the 3-dot menu on the toolbar, search and add Polly from the More apps options to your Teams account. Open Polly and follow on-screen instructions to create a poll. 

How do I see poll results in Microsoft Teams?
