Do you know the temperature difference between your PSVR and your body heat will create mistiness on your VR lenses?

Such an irritating fact. Right? I know! I have been there,

I have been using PlayStation VR since it came on the market. Before that, I used other VR goggles. And the fogging up lenses were a pretty common issue till I found the ultimate solution. After experimenting with multiple methods, I managed to solve this fogging up issue with some simple hacks.

And of course, by applying those easy tricks, you will overcome this situation too. Do you want to know the tricks?fix-psvr-keeps-fogging-up

Before that, you must know,

Why your PSVR keeps fogging up?

The primary reason behind the fogged up lenses is your high body temperature reducing moisture on the colder lenses. Other than that, uncleansed VR glass for a long time, Improper adjustment of the VR on your forehead also creates the haziness.

So which one is causing you the issue? Continue reading to learn more.

Why Does my PSVR Headset Get Foggy?

The way PSVR headsets are built, it is common for the lenses to get foggy. How? Read this part carefully to understand.

The fact of the matter is that the lenses are cold compared to your room or even your head. The same thing happens when you wear glasses. Imagine a cold winter day, and you enter into your warm room. The warm air within the room has to adapt to your cold glasses, and your glasses have to adapt to the warm air.

That’s what makes a glass of sweat. The key here is the temperature differences. Need another proof? Hold on!

Have you ever tried breathing on a window? I’m sure you have. What happens after that? The glass instantly gets blurry because the air coming from your mouth is warmer than the glass.

That’s the main reason behind the foggy lenses but not the only one. Your VR glass can be blurry due to technical reasons. Continue reading to find out.why-does-my-psvr-headset-get-foggy

Here are the variables that cause foggy lens:

  1. Uncleansed VR glass: This is also a common ground behind the blurry glass. If you don’t clean the lenses from time to time, the dust is stuck on the lens, which gets permanent. The dust seems cloudy after a while, and hence the fogginess.
  2. Lack of airflow: New PSVR users try to keep the light out at the bottom. For that, they try pressing the rubber gasket to their cheeks which prevents the airflow and the cloudy lens appears.
  3. Improper VR Adjustment: Your VR experience gets blurry when you can’t adjust the goggles properly. This happens when you bring in a new PSVR headset and can’t measure the eye to eye distance, and this causes the cloudy effect on lenses.

These are the main reasons behind your PSVR’s getting unclear. Applying the proper fix for every one of these reasons would solve the problem.

But you don’t know how to do that? Do not worry. In the next section, I’ll mention the methods I applied when I encountered with this issue. Continue reading to understand them.

How do I Stop My PSVR from Fogging Up?

As I said earlier, fogging problem on VR is quite regular. But, this regular issue causes you an irregular experience if you don’t take proper steps. Imagine the beautiful virtual world rendered around you, but you struggle to enjoy it due to foggy lenses.

So, what to do next? Anything it takes to clear out the vision. In this part, I’m going to explain what measures you can take to clear out the blur.how-do-i-stop-my-psvr-from-fogging-up

Here are the methods you can apply to stop PSVR from fogging up:

1. Clean Your PSVR lenses

The simplest solution you can apply when facing the fogging issue is cleaning the PlayStation VR. This sounds lame, I know. But you would be surprised to know the cleaning method saved a lot of peoples Headset from permanent damage.

To clean the lenses, use some materials that don’t harm glasses. You can use a piece of microfiber cloth to clean up the lenses. As the foggy situation results from humidity difference, using a piece of warm cloth would handle the trouble.

You can also use antifog sprays, waxes. It’s not the appropriate method. But, as a temporary solution, applying little anti fog sprays works just fine.

2. Warm up the headset before using

Warming up the headset is also a simple yet workable solution. As I mentioned earlier, VR’s fogging up is caused for the warmth difference between your body heat and the lenses. Now imagine, if you heat up the headset before even starting the Play Station, the temperature won’t differ that much, and the cloudy vision won’t bother you.

Simple, right? So don’t waste any time and warm up the headset. But, wait. Don’t put it on fire!

Here are the methods you can warm up your headset:

  • Turn on the headset before using it; Maybe you are thinking, who doesn’t turn on the VR before using? What I mean is, turn on the PSVR ten to fifteen minutes before entering the virtual reality. Switching on for that time will heat up the VR box and probably it will match with the room temperature.
  • Use Air blower: You can also use an air blower/ dust blower to heat up the VR if you want instant action. A fair warning, don’t turn it to be too hot; it will damage your lenses permanently.

These are the methods to eradicate humidity differences.

3. Adjust the headset properly

If the fogging issue is happening for any technical problem, this fix should solve the problem. Adjust your headset appropriately to get rid of the blurry effects.

Here’s how you can adjust the headset:

  • Put on the headset.
  • Gently move it around your face using the band.
  • Tighten the headset when you find the sweet spot using the rear wheel.

So, you have found the correct spot. Follow the next steps to measure the eye to eye distance.

  • Go to the PlayStation settings from the menu bar.
  • Select Devices from the list.
  • Scroll down to PlayStation VR and select it.
  • Select Measure Eye to Eye Distance from the bottom of the list.

Now follow the on screen instructions to complete the process. Once you are certain about the right setting, restart the PS and enjoy the virtual world without blurriness.

4. Use Anti-fog Utilities

If you want to spend money clearing your lenses, I suggest you use some anti-fog coating solution, and it is more of a stable solution for the hazy screen.

This anti-fog coating promises to reduce the fog build-up through sprays. By diminishing the surface strain, water droplets are spread, and this procedure lessens the chance of fog building. You can find plenty of anti-fog solutions at your nearest super shop.

If you are not comfortable with your VR straps, you can always replace them. Trying a new facial interface will help you to adjust the straps more comfortably.

The last utility you can use is a neck cooling fan. This fan will provide the airflow your goggles need. As I said earlier, proper airflow reduces your body heat. Hence the humidity difference stays at a reasonable margin, and the lenses don’t get fogged up.

These are the solutions to your PlayStation VR’s blurriness. Choose which one works for you. If you can’t do that, apply the solutions in an orderly.

Conclusion

The last thing I would like to add is, remember that PSVR isn’t perfect. You are strapping a screen to your face. This external screen will always be vulnerable to hardware issues. When it happens do not worry much. Keep calm and try the solutions.

If you are at this point of the article and read every word I have put there, I can assure you that you will be able to solve the misting up problem on your own. Just follow my instructions.

Then again, if you encounter any difficulties applying them, feel free to comment. I will provide some quick fixes as always.
