How Do I Stream Steam VR to Discord?
You can stream Steam VR to Discord by launching a game from Steam VR and then heading to Discord to start a live stream. You can only stream one game at a time by clicking on the name of the game. You can stream with sound too but there are extra steps.
The best method to stream a game to Discord right now is by sharing a game that’s on Steam VR. Apart from this, you can also stream a game from Oculus Quest 2 to Discord. The process for that is completely different so I will tell you about that in detail later.
Here are the steps to stream Steam VR to Discord:
- First of all, launch the Discord client on your PC.
- After that, create a Discord server by clicking the circular plus icon on the left side of the window and then clicking on Create a server. You need to add all your friends to this server. Alternatively, you could join your friend’s server.
- Install Steam VR if you don’t already have it installed.
- Launch the Steam VR app and start the game that you want to share with your friends. Make sure that both Steam VR and your game are running in the background.
- When you go back to your Discord application, you should see the name of your game in the server navigation panel on the bottom left corner.
- After you click on the monitor-like icon next to it, you should see a new window that allows you to choose a resolution and frame rate to your preference. It should be noted that you need a Discord Nitro subscription to unlock high-resolution streaming.
- Once you have selected all the options, click on the Go Live button in the bottom right corner. Your friends and everyone on the server will now be able to see the game you are playing in Steam VR.
Some of you might have trouble with the audio and this is pretty common with games. The video will stream just fine but the audio would be silent. This typically happens when you launch the game without starting Steam VR first.
Here’s a complete guide on how to Fix VR Black Screen.
I recommend you try doing these steps to fix this issue:
- Close Discord if it is running and also close all the games in the background.
- Launch Steam VR.
- Click the menu icon and select the settings option.
- Click on the Audio option and then toggle the option named Audio mirroring to On.
- After that, you need to choose which device you want to duplicate the VR audio to by expanding the drop-down list.
- Launch the game after this. Make sure that Discord is closed when you do this.
- Do the same steps as above in Discord and everything should be working properly now.

How Do I Stream From Oculus Quest 2 To Discord?
You can stream from Oculus Quest 2 to Discord by casting the VR headset to a browser window on your PC first and then screen sharing that window to a Discord server. You can simplify this process by using an application called Virtual Desktop.
If you are unfamiliar with the term Casting, it basically means projecting what you see inside the Oculus VR screen to a PC or TV, whichever device is receiving the projection.
As mentioned earlier, there are two methods to stream Oculus Quest 2 to Discord, one involves casting while the other requires you to use the Virtual Desktop app. Don’t worry, I will show both methods step-by-step so you don’t have any confusion.
Here are the steps to stream from Oculus Quest 2 to Discord by casting:
- Launch Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your desktop and search for Oculus Casting. Click on the first result from the Oculus website. I suggest you not use any other browsers because they don’t support Oculus casting.
- After that, you will need to log in with your Oculus credentials. You will be redirected to the casting page once you have signed in.
- Next, put on the Oculus headset and press the Oculus button on the controller.
- You should be able to see 4 options on top of the VR screen. Click on the one that says Cast.
- Choose your computer from the list and if you did everything properly, it should be casting now. If you don’t see a red dot on the top right corner of your screen, something went wrong and it’s not casting. You will need to redo all the steps in that case.
- After you have made sure that your Oculus screen is properly casting, launch Discord and start a screen share on a Discord server. You will see an option to share the entire screen or just a browser window. You need to choose the Oculus casting browser window to share the Oculus Stream.
This method works for 99% of users but if you are facing any problems, you can use a third-party application known as Virtual Desktop. However, this is a rather expensive option since it’s priced at $19.99 at the time of writing this article.

- Once you have purchased the application, you need to install the Virtual Desktop on both the Oculus Quest 2 and Desktop.
- Launch the Virtual Desktop streamer app and input your Oculus user name. This will help connect the two apps.
- Launch the virtual desktop app on Oculus Quest 2. You should be able to see the Desktop window now.
- Now you can share the Oculus Casting tab on your browser with Discord to share the Oculus stream.
