How to Fix Bent Pins on a CPU and Motherboard
To fix the bent pins first, locate the bent pin. After that, straighten the pin using a straight blade and tweezers. Then, position the CPU above the motherboard socket to ensure an appropriate connection to the pins. Don’t put too much pressure on the pin, or it will break.
Note: This approach is just for bent pins because you cannot repair pins that have detached from your CPU or motherboard. Straightening the motherboard and processor pins is a complex and time-consuming task.
When fixing those pins, you must be patient and cautious. Additionally, before you fix your motherboard and processor bent pin, you will need some equipment such as a straight blade, tweezer, and magnifying glass.
Here are the steps to fix bent pins on a CPU and Motherboard:
- Examine the damage.
Note: Examine the breakage and the number of twisted pins by holding the Processor by the corners and staring along the short order of pins for irregularities.
- Put the blade in between two rows. Do the same for the rows with bent pins.
Note: Examine every row from both sides to determine which sections require attention.
- Align pins in all directions.
Note: When bent pins obstruct the blade’s passage, carefully straighten them upright with the blade’s sharp curve, each at a time.
- Straighten the stiff pins using tweezers.
Note: If some pins are significantly bent, use a set of strongly pointed tweezers to raise them to an elevation where the razor blade can reach them as you move your way through the row.
- Repeat the technique until the pins are mostly straight.
- Raise your motherboard’s socket locking mechanism.
Note: Once properly placed, the Processor will be level with the socket’s borders. There should be no spaces.
- Align the little triangles on your processor to the small triangles on your motherboard.
Note: Align the gold triangular on the edge of the Processor to the triangle on the edge of the motherboard connector.
- Close the locking tab after inserting the CPU.
After installing the CPU, check to see if your system boots up. If your system boots up, do a stress test on your processor to determine if it is running properly.
Note: Do not touch anything inside the computer case until all power wires have been unplugged from the power socket.
