Confusion of Ti vs. Non-Ti GPU [Read to Know the Difference]

Written By Farhan Max

If you notice Intel’s CPU naming schemes, then you may notice that the manufacturer adds K or F at the end of their processor model. This differs the models from the base chip— as K refers to the unlocked chip & F is without an iGPU.

Similarly, for GPU, NVIDIA uses the suffix Ti to distinguish its cards from the base model.ti-vs-non-ti-gpu

In this article, I will describe the variance of Ti & Non-Ti cards. Let’s dive in.

What is the Difference Between a Ti and a Non-Ti Card?

NVIDIA uses TitaniumTi as a marketing strategy to refer to the best card for an existing lineup model. For example, GeForce GTX 1660 is the base model & GTX 1660 Ti is the best for the 1660 lineup.

Non-Ti means the base card for a lineup without having any extra suffixes. As aforementioned, GTX 1660 is the base model without having a Ti tag, hence the Non-Ti.

So, what’s the difference between the Ti vs. Non-Ti GPU?

The Ti cards are not an OC version of the Non-Ti cards. Instead, it’s a step-up card from the base model GPU. In fact, it acts as a refreshed Non-Ti graphics card with higher CUDA cores, memory, memory speed, memory bandwidth, etc. In comparison to performance, the Ti cards are way better than the base card.

That being said, the Ti cards are not similarly performant as their following lineup models. So, the Ti cards stay in between their base model & the afterward model. For example, RTX 3060→RTX 3060 Ti→RTX 3070.rtx-3060-3060ti-3070

Now, let’s have a look at the specs of some base models & their Ti variants for a better understanding.

NameGTX 1660GTX 1660 TiRTX 3060RTX 3060 Ti
Base Clock (MHz)1530150013201410

Memory Bandwidth192 GB/s228 GB/s360 GB/s448 GB/s

As you can see, there are various changes in the specifications for the graphics cards from the Non-Ti model to Ti variant. These variations also impact the framerates positively & thus make the Ti a top tier for their existing lineup.

Now, if you wonder how much impact the Ti affects on games, keep reading to know more.

Are NVIDIA Ti Graphics Cards Better?

Usually, the Ti variants are way better performers than their base models. The GTX 1070 Ti was kind of a steal for the price to perform at their launch price. It was only a slightly less performer than the GTX 1080.

However, RTX 3070 Ti is not more notable performing than the RTX 3070. But the Ti still beats the base card. This concludes one thing & that is the Ti cards are superior to their base cards.

Let’s have a look at average frame rates for some games with NVIDIA GeForce GTX Non-Ti & Ti variants graphics cards paired with Ryzen 7 5800X. Note that the FPS may vary due to game updates, graphics drivers & various system combinations.non-ti-vs-ti-performance

Now, let’s take a look at the performance chart for the GeForce RTX series Non-Ti & Ti cards.non-ti-vs-ti-performance02

The charts show that the Ti variants are always the winner & perform better than the Non-Ti cards. So we can say that NVIDIA’s Ti is better than their base models. So if you intend to upgrade to a Ti card, don’t forget to reuse the old graphics card.

Is the Super Card Better Than the Ti?

NVIDIA released the Super variant card back in the year 2019. Due to its name, a question can arise, is it superior?

Well, the Super cards are not the best for their lineup. Rather, it’s in the middle of the base model & the Ti model. For example, RTX 2080→RTX 20800 Super→RTX 2080 Ti.

Here is a chart of these GPUs’ specifications.

NameRTX 2080RTX 2080 SuperRTX 2080 Ti
Base Clock (MHz)151516501350
Boost Clock (MHz)171018151545

Memory Speed14Gbps15.5Gbps14Gbps
Memory Bandwidth448 GB/s496 GB/s616 GB/s
Memory Interface256-bit256-bit352-bit

You can see that the Super variant is better than the base card, but slightly less performer than the Ti card. Far Cry 5, Fortnite, Forza Horizon 4 games’ avg. frame rates are 4%-7% higher for the RTX 2080 Ti than the Super card. Just ensure there is no CPU bottleneck & low GPU usage.

FAQs

What does Ti mean in GPU?

NVIDIA uses the suffix Ti, which stands for Titanium in graphics cards.

RTX 3060 vs RTX 3060 Ti?

RTX 3060 Ti is way better than the RTX 3060 & bang for the buck.

What is the AMD equivalent card for Ti?

Like Ti, AMD uses XT for their cards to distinguish a more powerful version from the base model.

Final Verdict

NVIDIA uses Ti to indicate their best variant for the existing lineup to distinguish from the Non-Ti variant.

Though there is a Super variant that is better than the base card, still the Ti cards are superior for their lineup.
