The secondary ringer feature can be extremely valuable. But, it is prone to some bugs, and it’s not working due to some settings being turned off.
Whatever the reason is, I have the solutions.
Here are the methods to fix Microsoft Teams secondary ringer not working:
1. Sign Out and Reset Secondary Ringer Settings
You must log out from Microsoft Teams, restart the app and reset secondary ring settings.
Here’s how you log out and restart from Microsoft Teams:
- Click on your profile picture at the top right corner.
- Select Sign Out.
- Close the Microsoft Teams app.
- Quit it from the notification tray.
- Reopen the app.
And here’s how you reset secondary ringer settings:
- Click the three dots at the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to Devices and choose Secondary ringer.
- Select a different device from the secondary ringer dropdown menu.
If a bug was causing this issue, updating the app and resetting the secondary ringer will fix it.

2. Update Microsoft Teams
Assuming that the secondary ringer not working due to a bug, it might be resolved by updating the app if available.
Here are the steps to update Microsoft Teams:
- Click on your profile picture at the top right corner.
- Select Check for updates.
If an update is available, Microsoft Teams will download and install it automatically.

3. Set Speakers as Secondary Ringer
When I did go through community forums, I found some people fixed the issue by changing the secondary ringer to speakers and the device’s audio output to headphones.
Give it a try to see if this works for you.
Here is how you set secondary ringer & device audio output:
- Click the three dots at the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to Devices and choose Secondary ringer.
- Select Speakers from the secondary ringer dropdown menu.
- Click the Sound Icon in the taskbar and choose Headphones.
This way, the headphones, as well as the speakers on your device, will play audio when receiving calls.
5. Change Notification Settings
Choosing Banner and feed as notification in Microsoft teams can resolve the issue. See if this solves the problem.
Here is a pathway to tweak the notification settings:
- Click the three dots at the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to Notifications.
- Enable Play sound for notifications.
- Go to Teams and channels and select Custom.
- Choose Banner and feed for every option.
Banner and feed is the only option that plays audible sound. Other options: Only show in feed, and Off don’t play any sound.

How to Fix Teams Not Ring When I Get a Call
As of now, in 2022, about 270 million people use Microsoft Teams. And though it is created by a giant company like Microsoft, this app has some major problems, like not ringing when getting calls.
So, why my Teams not ring when I get a call?
Your Microsoft Teams may not ring when you get a call, which can be due to some kind of temporary bugs and glitches. Also, the issue can occur because of some other reasons, such as internet issues, buying the wrong type of E5 license agreement, and choosing the incorrect call settings in Teams.
I have provided multiple solutions to fix this issue.
In case you are someone who hasn’t faced this problem, you should still go through the solutions. So you don’t encounter this problem in the future.
Here are the possible solutions to fix Teams not ring when I get a call:
1. Check the Sound System is OK
Before changing any settings, make sure whether your sound is working or not. Just play an audio file. And check that you are not muted or that the volume is not too low.
2. Check Internet Connection
Your Team’s incoming calls might fail to ring due to an unstable internet connection or a low bandwidth connection. If that’s the case, you should upgrade your connection.
3. Check License Type and License Agreement
Microsoft Teams calls have 2 types of E5 (Enterprise feature) licenses; one with audio conferencing and the other without. Check what kind of license you have.
Here’s how you check your E5 license:
- Open Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- Go to Billing.
- Select Purchase services and check which E5 license you’ve bought.
Assuming that you have bought an E5 license with audio conferencing, the next task is to assign it to the right team member.
Here’s how you assign license to a user:
- Open Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- Select Users in the left corner.
- Click Active users, then choose the user who cannot receive calls.
- Select Manage product licenses at the top.
- Assign the license to the user and save changes.
After this, there should be no issue regarding license type and agreement.

4. Check Microsoft Teams Call Settings
In case, for some reason, you accidentally disabled the ring for the incoming calls feature, then, of course, you won’t hear any ringing. Let’s check the option.
Here’s how you enable ring for incoming calls in Microsoft Teams:
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Click the three dots at the top right corner.
- Select Settings, then Calls.
- Check Always ring on this device even when active on desktop.
Check whether the problem is fixed or not.
5. Check Microsoft Teams Quiet Hour Settings
Quiet hour is a feature of Microsoft Teams. It lets you turn off all notifications at certain hours set by the user.
It is only available on the mobile version. However, the quiet hour setting might interfere with the desktop app, assuming you use the same Microsoft Teams on desktop and mobile.
In the mobile app, go to Settings > Notifications > Quiet Hours. Check the time and change the time accordingly.
6. Check for Updates
If the problem occurs due to a bug, it might be resolved by updating the app.

- Select your profile picture.
- Click Check for updates.
