Dropbox: How to Update Your Account Email Address [2024]

Written By Steven Arends

In this day and age of cloud computing, cloud storage such as iCloud, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox are becoming increasingly popular.

Of all the cloud storage systems, I’ve always preferred Dropbox not because of the storage it provides or the different package plans for individuals and teams but because of the flexibility it offers.

Flexibility to change your email address, change your username or password, and even add a secondary email; so you can route content shared with your primary or secondary email into a single Dropbox account.

In this article, I’ve shown how simple it is to update an email for Windows and Mac, also for Android and iOS. Just follow along with the steps; it will only take a few minutes.

How to Update Your Email Address on Dropbox Account? (Windows & Mac)

If you ever decide to change your email, but don’t want to create a new Dropbox account and purchase a plan, then you are in the right place.

While in other cloud storage, the update email option is hard to find, and some of them don’t even have the opportunity; in Dropbox, it is straightforward. Only takes a few easy steps.

Here’s how you can update your email address on Windows & Mac:

  1. Click on the dropbox icon in the hidden taskbar and select the Web icon, or open the browser and go to dropbox.com/home.
  2. Sign in if you are not already signed in.
  3. Click on your profile picture or your initials at the top right corner.
  4. Select Settings.drop-box-settings
  5. Go to the General tab. You should see your email there, and next to the email, you could see 3 different options.
    • Option 1: If you see Edit beside your email, then everything is fine. Go to step 6.
    • Option 2: If you see Verify email, you will need to verify it first before you can update your email address. I’ve provided the necessary steps on how to verify email on Dropbox
    • Option 3: If you see an info icon, you are a Dropbox Team package user. In that case, you’ll need to contact an admin of your team, and the admin can change your email address. Also, the steps on how to find an admin in Dropbox team are given in this article.
  6. Click Edit beside your email.
  7. Enter the new email address you want to change to in the first and second boxes where it says New email and Confirm email. Enter your Dropbox password in the third box.
  8. Select Update email.drop-box-mail-edit
  9. Open your new email address. You should receive a message from Dropbox.
  10. Select the message and click Verify your email.

All done! You should be able to use the updated email to log in to your Dropbox account from now on, and everything else about your account should remain intact.

If you haven’t verified your email address, you need to do it; otherwise, you can’t change your email address. Just follow the steps below. It won’t take long.

Here’s how to verify your email address on Dropbox:

  • Go to dropbox.com/home.
  • Sign in to your Dropbox account.sign-in
  • Click on your avatar at the top right.
  • Select Settings.
  • Click Verify email next to your email address.
  • Open your email address. You will see a new email from Dropbox.
  • Open the email and click Verify your email.verify-your-email

That’s all you have to do. Your email should be verified now.

Suppose you are using one of the Dropbox team packages, then you will need to contact your team admin and tell him/her to change your email address.

Here’s how to find an admin on your Dropbox Team:

  • Go to dropbox.com.
  • Sign in to your account.
  • Click on your avatar or initials.
  • Select View team and groups.
  • Go to the Members tab.

You should see a list of your team members’ names and statuses. Find someone with the status of an admin and tell him/her to update your mail address.

You can add a secondary email to your Dropbox account to route content shared with your primary or secondary email into a single Dropbox account.

But you must purchase a Dropbox Professional, Plus, Family, or Business customers package to add a secondary email.

Here are the procedures to add or remove a secondary email:

1.How to Add a Secondary Email to Dropbox Account

You can add multiple secondary emails to your Dropbox account. And if people send requests for files in your secondary email, you can accept them with your primary email.

Here’s how to add a secondary email address to your Dropbox account:

  • Go to com and sign in.
  • Click on your avatar or initials at the top right corner.
  • Select Settings.
  • Find Secondary email in the General tab and click Edit.
  • Select Add a secondary email and enter the email you want to add.
  • Click Next and then Close.

You are done with adding another email to your account. You will still need to use the primary email to log in to your account.

  • Click your profile picture or initials at the top.
  • Click Settings.
