Corsair Dominator Vs. Vengeance Pro: Worth the Extra Buck?

VS

Our Verdict: Between the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB and Vengeance RGB Pro SL, the Dominator Platinum RGB is better in terms of design, speed, and performance. However, if you take cost-effectivity and compatibility into consideration, the Vengeance RGB Pro SL has the upper hand.

You might have heard the names of the two most popular RAMs, the Corsair Dominator and the Corsair Vengeance. And when it comes to choosing between the two, it’s a tough decision.

Corsair Dominator Platinum series of memory kits are some top-class modules that you can get for your gaming PC. They have been in the market for quite a time now and have stamped their top position with authority.corsair-dominator-vs-corsair-vengeance

Just like the Dominator Platinum series, the Vengeance Series from them is also widely revered by gamers. The Vengeance Pro SL turned out to be a game-changer regarding value for money.

However, there has to be one clear winner between Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB and Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL, right? So, what are we waiting for? Let’s dive in and find out.

Design & Aesthetics

Both the Dominator Platinum RGB and the Vengeance RGB Pro SL have a similar sort of design, apart from a few discrepancies.

Both models’ RAM modules come with a matte black finish, giving them a sleekish touch. The build-up is also quite sturdy for both of these models.

You can be assured about the long-term durability, and it doesn’t matter which model you buy between these two.

However, when talking about aesthetics, one of them has a slight edge over the other.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB comes with a lovely matte blackish accent, just like the Vengeance RGB Pro SL. But if I have to compare the RGB lighting of both these two models, I will always choose Dominator Platinum RGB over the other one.

The Dominator Platinum RGB sports contain 12 individually addressable LEDs in each module. Each LED is Capellix LED, which is known to be the best of class.

If I compare it to the predecessor version of Vengeance RGB Pro SL, the Vengeance RGB Pro, there is a 60% enhancement in the brightness of the LEDs.

Now, the Vengeance RGB Pro SL does have an excellent RGB implementation. I loved the bar-like iteration of the RGB LEDs on the modules.

But the glow is better in the Dominator Platinum RGB. And this eventually makes it aesthetically better than Vengeance RGB Pro SL. So, I’ll give the Corsair Dominator an upper hand in the design and aesthetic category.

Memory Speed & Latency

Memory speed is always an essential aspect when choosing a specific RAM.

Since we are talking about the Dominator Platinum RGB and the Vengeance RGB Pro SL, both models come with the same capacity. That is why choosing a certain one between them might seem to be a tricky task for you.

But in reality, it isn’t.

Before going directly into the comparison, let’s talk about the implications of the RAM speed.

A specific model can always come with a different clock speed despite having the same capacity. Generally, the memory that comes with a higher rate always has a more significant impact.

Let’s say that you have a dedicated GPU in your build. In this case, the RAM with greater speed is preferable because it will ensure better framerates.

Between the two models, the Vengeance Pro RGB SL version comes with a speed of 3600 MHz, and the Dominator Platinum RGB has a speed of 3466 MHz.

However, other than speed, CAS latency is something you should take into account.

Generally, memories with lower latencies are preferable. Here, the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL has a CAS latency of 18, whereas the Dominator Platinum RGB has a CAS latency of 16.

Now, in between these two, the winner is the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB. The reason is that the combination of a CAS Latency of 16 with 3466 MHz is slightly faster than 3600 MHz with a CAS latency of 18.

That is why despite having a slightly lower speed, the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB thumps the Vengeance RGB Pro SL in this regard.

Clearance

To be honest, the memory modules should fit aptly into the allotted slots. If not, then it’s a pretty big issue.

The Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL is mainly suited to the builds with the compact form factors between these two models. Compared to its predecessor, the Vengeance Pro SL has a 12% reduction in height. This trait enables this model to fit under most air coolers and compact setups.

Now, the Dominator Platinum RGB is slightly taller than the Vengeance Pro RGB SL. It comes with a height of 51 mm in contrast to the 44 mm of the Vengeance RGB Pro SL. That said, this height isn’t an issue in most situations, but there are a few air coolers under which it won’t fit.

In this regard, the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL has wider compatibility.

Software

Given that Corsair manufactures both RAM modules, the software is likely to be the Corsair ICUE software. Yet, there are some differences.

The version of ICUE used in the Dominator Platinum RGB has some additional features compared to the one in Vengeance Pro RGB SL.

Since there are 12 addressable LEDs used in the Dominator Platinum RGB, tweaking them requires some extra features. And such features are absent in the Vengeance Pro RGB SL.

This doesn’t mean that the version with added features is better and more responsive than the other. It’s just the versatility that one version doesn’t have.

Budget

Whatever you choose, at the end of the day, you need money to buy it. Therefore, before making the right buying decision, make sure that you have the right amount of cash with you.

The prices of both these memory kits have a pretty big difference. The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB is around 50% more expensive than Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL.

So between these two, if I have to identify the cost-effective one, it has to be the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL.

Which RAM is Right for You?

Choosing the best RAM should always be a priority when building a PC or upgrading the existing one. The faster your RAM and lower the CAS latency is, the more performance you’ll get from the memory.
