In short, this article is going to be your life-long resource about AirPods and AirPods pro. So, hang in there till the end.

How to Factory Reset AirPods & AirPods Pro

I don’t need to explain the reasons why you should reset your AirPods. It could be due to a simple troubleshoot or a drastic performance fall. Even if you feel the buds ain’t behaving like earlier, a factory reset can wash away the issues.

So, what’s the process of resetting?

Follow this four-step process. You might need your device connected to the buds. Done? Ok, let’s begin.

Here are the steps to factory reset AirPods:

Step 1: Place Your Buds

The first easy stage is to put your buds into the case. Take those off of your ear or wherever they were, and place them back into the charging case.

Close the lid ( case cap) after placing the buds. Make sure you close the case at least for 30 seconds. This process will shut down the buds- which is necessary.

Step 2: Tweak Device Settings

Unlock your mobile/ tablet after completing the earlier stage. Go to Settings > Tap on Bluetooth in the settings menu.

After that, under the My devices section, click on the (i) icon right next to your AirPods. Select Forget this device once you get into that section.forget-this-device

Step 3: Press the Button

Done with the previous steps properly? Good. Open the AirPods lid. While keeping the charging case open, press and hold the setup button ( White button back of the case).

Hold that button (approximately for 15 seconds) till you notice the front light changes from brown to white.reset-airpods

Note: Opening the case nearby any iOS device will trigger the new setup process.

How do you do that?

Here are the steps to reset AirPods without using your phone:

  • Put both the buds into the charging case and close the cap.
  • Locate the pairing button from the back of the case.
  • Press and hold that button for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Wait for the front notification light turns white from amber.

Close the AirPods’ cap. That’s the final step. After that, your AirPods will be completely reset. Connect any device you intend to add now.

How to Fix AirPods that won’t Reset

Do your AirPods refuse to reset? Now that you know why that happens let’s deep dive into how you can avoid that situation.

Here are some solutions you can apply when your AirPods won’t reset:

Clean the AirPods

Pick a cotton bar and use it to remove dust/ dirt that has been stockpiled inside the charging case.

Dust can cover the charging connectors from the inside and revokes the buds from charging properly, which leads to a reset issue.

Adequately Cleaning the buds is the ultimate solution here.

Check AirPods’ Firmware Version

Make sure the firmware installed in the AirPod is up-to-date. Although, firmware updates don’t come out very often. But checking and updating the latest version will offer you the upper hand in resolving the matter.

Here are the steps to check AirPods Firmware Version:

  • Launch Settings from your iOS device- which is linked to your AirPods.
  • Navigate to General > About > AirPods.
  • Check the firmware version and note down the number.check-the-firmware-version-of-your-airpods
