Is Ti Better than Super GPUs? [Performance Comparison]

Written By Farhan Max

A subtle push on FPS for the Tactical Shooter games like CS-Go & Valorant can deliver a confident advantage over performance.

Competitive gamers & professional users often run after the performance, even if it’s the slightest push.

This brings up choosing the better version – Ti or Super.is-ti-better-than-super

Let’s end this debate with a spec comparison and performance analysis of the Ti & Super versions.

Ti or Super? Which Performs Better?

GPU users often find this confusing, whether they should go for the Ti or Super version card. I’ve been suffering with this rambling issue until I discovered the Ti variant GPUs come with more computing cores than the super variants.

But do all the Ti version GPUs perform better than the Super version?

I’ve tested several Ti and Super on an identical spec system, finding the answer. For more accurate results, I’ve selected similar, if not equivalent GPU models of the RTX 2080 series.

Comparing the 2080 TI & 2080 Super, we’ve ended up with the results that clearly indicate the 2080 Ti is better in every aspect.

The 2080 Ti performs 25% better than the Super version, and the gaming performance is also better on some games like Fortnite gives 7% & GTA V gives 15% more FPS on average while we tested.

However, every game may not perform with such a significant performance score, as some games aren’t GPU intensive.

But if you compare both GPUs regarding the specification, you can easily spot the difference from the table below:

AttributesRTX 2080 SuperRTX 2080 Ti
TDP215 W250 W
GPU Clock1650 MHz1350 MHz
Transistor Count13600 Million18600 Million
Memory Bandwidth495.9 GB/s616.0 GB/s
Memory Bus256-bit352-bit
Shading Units30724352
Tensor Cores384544

The Table clearly shows that RTX 2080 Ti has more memory bandwidth, Bus, transistor count, shading cores, and tensor cores with respective TDP wattage. But why is the GPU Clock Speed less than the Super version, yet performing better?

Because the Ti version has more transistors to force the overall GPU performance with higher bandwidth memory as support.

Peculiarly, some Super GPUs can outperform Ti series ones. For Example, GTX 1660 Super is better than the GTX 1660Ti, but recent Ti versions hardly have such exceptions.

Here is our separate post on how to tell if a game is CPU or GPU intensive?

What Makes Ti & Super Special?

The GPU chipset manufacturers always sell their better-performing products under specific names like Ti, Super, XT, & OC. Likewise, CPU manufacturers add K, X, KS, & 3D as name prefixes to symbolize higher-tier models. This diversity & superiority varies over Binning process.binning-process

Every manufacturer tests each of their own units to check how much power it can deliver under a stable state. Clearly, every chip doesn’t perform identically, therefore manufacturers split the extra performing units and put different name prefixes according to their performance potential.

Not to mention, GPU manufacturers add more cores into those particular units, which can handle more heavy tasks without issues, and these GPUs last longer than regular units.

So, these are the actual reasons for releasing Ti & Super exclusively, as these refreshed versions can function more intensively than regular Units.

Does Ti & Super Justifies Price to Performance Ratio?

We all know that performance and elegance heavily rely on price. But high priced products like graphics cards are indeed adored by most users. Even I would choose any of my desired products depending on my budget.

Therefore, the GPU that has Ti might be a better choice depending on its performance & specification. But most consumers won’t decide to buy an overpriced or irrelevantly extended price which doesn’t ensure the price-to-performance ratio.

However, many users do not hesitate to spend on High-end GPUs, which directly affects the current GPU price. For example, the Crypto Miners are always ready to purchase the latest GPU with a higher hash rate to mine.

This uncertain and excessive demand for GPUs destabilizes the overall price, creating GPU scarcity.

Except for that situation, if a non-Ti or non-Super unit has a price of around 700$ and the Ti version costs roughly 1200$, it won’t have that acceptability. Because the performance uplift  isn’t even 70% as you have to pay more than 70% extra.

Instead, a GTX 1660 non-Ti costs around 220$, and a GTX 1660 Ti charges around 280$, which 25% price increase. Thus this price expansion is worth it as higher memory clock speed, higher texture rate, more shading units, GDDR6 memory, and so on are boosting performance correspondingly.

Surprisingly an identical processor base GPU price varies over brand only. An RTX 3080 GPU from ASUS differs from EVGA and performs differently also.

So, you should choose your GPU and buy it depending on the current market situation and measure the price-to-performance ratio.

FAQs

Is the 3080 TI high-end?

The RTX 3080 Ti isn’t considered the highest, but it’s among the high-end graphics cards with respectable performance surely.

Is 3080 Ti enough for 4K gaming?

Yes, you can play almost all AAA-type games in 4K with a playable FPS rate with enough details.

Is RTX 3080 Ti better than the 3090?

The RTX 3090 is better than the RTX 3080-Ti as it has double the VRAM capacity, higher GPU, and Boost clock speeds.

Final Verdict

In general, the Ti series graphics cards are high-tire units and better performing, but you should sneak in the spec of the specific product you’re assuming to buy.

If you prefer performance over price, it’s easy enough to suggest a Ti rather than a Super. But if your budget is tight, you have to choose wisely.
