But first, we have to know about the reason behind this issue, and then we will jump into the solution.

Why is Oculus Quest 2 Mic not working?

Oculus Quest 2 mic is not working for several reasons. Sometimes backdated drivers can cause this troubleshoot. If you are not adjusting the sound settings for Oculus Quest 2 headset, then a mic error can happen, and some other reasons can be caused this issue.

Not Adjusting the Sound Settings.

Before you find any solution, first you have to check your Mic. You have to Connect the Quest Two headsets with your PC. Then follow the instructions for checking the state of your Mic.

  1. Go to the Start menu and search for settings.
  2. Find the System Settings Menu.
  3. Select Sound settings from there.
  4. Search for the Input Menu.
  5. Select Test your Microphone Option.

If the Blue bar remains constant, then your Mic is not working.

Here are the methods to fix the Oculus Quest 2 Mic not working Issue:

1. Adjust your Sund Settings

You will face this mic not working issue for wrong sound settings. You should always check your 

Audio Input and output settings for Oculus Quest two headset.

Here are the steps for checking Oculus audio settings:

  • Open the Oculus app on your PC. Always keep a shortcut on the home screen to open the app quickly and double-click on the shortcut.
  • Click on the Devices menu located on the left side of the screen.
  • Select the Quest and Touch option from there.
  • Find the Audio Output in VR menu.
  • Select Quest by pressing Quest is Selected option.

After selecting this, your Quest Audio setting will be set for Mic. Now check and adjust the sound settings of your PC.

You have to follow these steps to adjust the sound settings of your PC:

  • Right-click on the Speaker icon of your PC, which is located on the Taskbar of your PC.
  • Select the Open Sound Settings option from the Dropdown list.
  • Find the input section.
  • Choose Headset Microphone (Oculus Virtual Audio Device.) from the section.
  • Click on Sound Control Panel.
  • Select the Recording Tab.
  • Select Oculus Quest 2 Headset Microphone.
  • Click the Set it Default Button.
  • Press on your Mic once again.
  • Select Properties menu.
  • Go to the Levels menu and set the mic volume at a maximum level.
  • Return to the tab and click on the Advanced menu.
  • Remove the tick from the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device option.
  • Hit the Ok button to save the changes.

2. Allow Access of Oculus to your Microphone

Every Input/output device needs the approval of Windows to work perfectly, and the microphone of Oculus is not different.

Here are the steps that Allow Access to Windows microphone settings:

  • Click on the Start button and go to the search box.
  • Write Microsoft Privacy Settings and search for it.
  • Click to open it.

  • Select the Change option.
  • Click on the Allow button for Microphone Access for the device.
  • Select the Allow apps to access your Microphone. You need to scroll down to find the option.

  • Scroll down once again to find Allow desktop apps to access your Microphone option.
  • Turn on the application.

These are the methods for granting permission from windows.

Here is a funny fact: Sometimes, you accidentally mute your mic and get frustrated on the issue.

So, always check before you go to settings.

3. Update Your PC’s Audio Drivers

Backdated audio drivers create a big problem for the audio system of your PC. If your Audio drivers are not updated, your Mic will not work. Because Oculus products are not compatible with the backdated Drivers. So you need to update your Audio and USB Drivers.

You can update your Drivers either manually or automatically. Nowadays, most of the users update their drivers automatically by using various authentic software.

You will find all the Drivers on the website of your PC’s motherboard manufacturer. Go to the website and write down audio drivers in the search box.

All latest drivers for audio will appear on the screen. Download the drivers and install them.

Alongside Audio Drivers, download the updated versions of USB and Graphics Driver.

4. Restart Your Oculus Quest 2 Headset  

Sometimes a simple reboot can change the settings and solve the issue. You can reboot your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

Here are the steps of rebooting the Oculus Quest 2 Headset:

  • Press and hold the headset’s power button, and a screen will show up with several menus.
  • Select Restart from them.

Such a simple method. After the restart, check the mic of your  Oculus Quest 2 headset.

5. Reinstall the Oculus App on your PC

Suppose any methods are not working on your PC to fix this issue. Then just Reinstall the Oculus app. Because sometimes, the Oculus app is the main reason for the microphone issue.

To reinstall the app, you have to uninstall it from your PC.

Here are the steps to uninstall Oculus from your PC:

  • Go to the settings and select the apps menu.
  • Select all apps from the left side menu list.
  • Search for the Oculus app, right-click on it, and then the uninstall button will appear.
  • Hit ok for uninstalling the Oculus.
