AirPods Case Flashing Red/Orange? Try These Fixes

Written By Rawnak Islam Rumi

For the most part, the AirPods/Pro are pretty stable and error-free earbuds. But if you’re using AirPods for the first time & notice red/orange light blinking on the AirPod case, you might get alarmed.

Well, don’t be. It’s nothing serious, and thankfully the fix is pretty easy as well.airpod-case-flashing-red-orange

Let’s dive into this article, as I have discussed everything you need to know about this issue.

Why is My AirPod Case Blinking Red/Orange?

If the AirPods have less than 20-25% battery remaining, the red blinking light on the AirPods case means it’s time to charge the AirPods. In case the AirPods have more than 25% charge but the AirPod case is still blinking red even while charging, then it’s a technical/pairing error.

When the AirPods aren’t inside the case, a steady amber/orange light on the AirPod case indicates the AirPods’ low battery level. But when the AirPods are in the case, and the orange light stays on for 8 seconds, it means the AirPods are charging.

However, if the AirPods’ case is blinking orange light rapidly, it signifies a technical error due to a glitch or connectivity issue.

Besides these two colors, the case can also display white and green colors, which indicate pairing mode and full battery health respectively.

If the indicator LED on the AirPod case isn’t displaying any color when you open or close the lid, the case has completely run out of battery & needs to be charged ASAP.

But if you plug in the charger but the case LED still doesn’t display any light, then you might be facing the AirPods case not charging and no light issue.

How to Fix AirPods Flashing Orange/Red

For any of the existing AirPods variants, whenever the red or amber/orange light starts to blink or flash, check the battery level of your AirPods & its case. If the AirPods have less than 20% battery, put them inside the charging case. If the AirPod case has a low battery, charge it as well.

One more thing to note, it is a good practice to keep your AirPods case clean. It can prevent the internals from dust or water damage and reduce the chance of errors. Also, keep your AirPods case charged whenever you can, as it’s the only means to charge your AirPods.

When both the AirPods & the case have a sufficient battery, but the red or amber/orange LED is still blinking; you might be facing technical or connectivity errors due to bugs or glitches. In that case, you need to perform some additional measures to resolve this issue effectively.

FAQs

What does it mean if the AirPod case is blinking orange?

The orange blinking light on the AirPod case means different things in different scenarios. When the AirPods are inside the case, it means the AirPods are charging. Without AirPods in, the orange blinking light means the case doesn’t have enough charge to fully recharge the AirPods.

Does orange mean AirPods are dead?

No. The amber/orange light on the AirPods case indicates that it’s charging or the AirPods inside are being charged. When the light turns green, the AirPods are fully charged.

You can’t overcharge your AirPods case because the battery of the AirPods case is designed in a way that the charge is automatically stopped when the charge is 100%. But I wouldn’t recommend leaving your AirPods case charging for a long time.

  1. Hey, I’m doing the “pair one earbud at a time” instructions, and after I put them both back in the case to leave OPEN while charging for 2-3 hours, the amber light is still blinking. I haven’t touched them and plan on leaving them alone until the 2 hrs is up and I close the case to leave them to charge for another 2-3 hours, but is this normal for it to still be blinking at this point in the steps? Please let me know!!
