In Destiny 2, Witherhoard is one of the most powerful exotic grenade which becomes even stronger with its catalyst.
Though obtaining the Catalyst is tricky, the Witherhoard Catalyst is a fun weapon to wield.
In this post, I will walk you through the step-by-step process of acquiring the Witherhoard exotic grenade launcher with its catalyst in Destiny 2.
Let’s begin!
How to Obtain Witherhoard Catalyst in Destiny 2
To obtain the Witherhoard, you have to buy it from the Monument to Lost Lights at the Tower with 1 Exotic Cipher, 100000 Glimmer, 150 Glacial Starwort, and 1 Ascendant Shard. Then complete the Bank Job quest from Banshee-44 to unlock the Catalyst for the Witherhoard.
The quest requires four parts: One Last Job, High-Stakes Heist, Crime Spree, and Clean Getaway.
Below I’ve provided the complete process for getting the Witherhoard Catalyst.
Here are the steps to obtain Witherhoard Catalyst in Destiny 2:
1. Get the Items to Buy the Witherhoard
You’ll need 1 Exotic Cipher, 100000 Glimmer, 150 Glacial Starwort, and 1 Ascendant Shard to get the Witherhoard.
Here’s how to get the items to buy the Witherhoard:
Acquire 1 Exotic Cipher
You can get the Exotic Cipher from the Destiny 2 Season Pass when you reach Rank 55.
You can also get the cipher from XUR. He is in the game for four days out of the week. He spawns on Friday at 10 am Pacific/1 pm Eastern and stays till Tuesday.
But the one problem with XUR is that his spawn location changes randomly.
Here are all possible XUR locations:
- Winding Cove in the European Dead Zone, Earth.
- The Rig in Titan.
- Giant’s Scar in IO.
- Watcher’s Grave in Nessus.
- Courtyard in the Tower.
Collect 100,000 Glimmer
You can acquire Glimmer from pretty much any activity. You can also go to Spider to trade in materials for glimmer, but don’t trade in any Glacial Starwort, as you’ll need it for the Witherhoard.
You can find Spider’s location in the Last City: Eliksni Quarter on H.E.L.M.
Buy 1 Ascendant Shard
You can purchase the Ascendant Shard from Banshee-44 in the Tower. Also, high-level Nightfalls provide shards as random drops in the final chest.
Gather 150 Glacial Starwort
The Glacial Starworts are the plant-type material found in Europa. But before you go there, prepare your ghost shell with the Wombo Detector mod. It helps to find caches and resources within a 50-meter range.
Now go to Europa and head over to Variks the Loyal. Pick up all the bounties from Variks, and his bounties will reward you with a bunch of Starworts.
Additionally, you can find the caches with Glacial Starworts hidden in Europa, and you can see these on your map.
Individual Glacial Starworts can also be found in the Lost Sectors. The Wombo Detector mod on your ghost will help you detect them easily.
Once you’ve all the materials, go back to the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower and buy the Witherhoard.
Congratulations! you’ve got one of the most powerful grenade launchers in Destiny 2. However, you can make it more robust with Catalyst. in the following section, I’ve described how to acquire the Witherhoard Catalyst.
2. Complete the Bank Job Quest to Unlock Catalyst
To obtain Catalyst for Witherhoard, you need to do the Bank Job quest, which consists of four parts.
Here’s the process to complete the Bank Job quest to unlock Catalyst:
One Last Job
Talk to Banshee-44 in the Tower with the Witherhoard equipped in your inventory; otherwise, he won’t give you the quest.
After speaking to Banshee-44 for a bit, you’ll get the next part of the quest.
High-Stakes Heist
To complete this part of the quest, you’ll need 50 Vault Keys. The enemies that are killed with a kinetic or special grenade launcher drop these keys; however, it is not a guaranteed drop.
So, start an activity that’s full of enemies, such as Strikes or Gambit, and you’ll get all the keys in no time.
Crime Spree
This part of the quest is a little bit of a grind. To finish this quest segment, you’ll need 100 guardian eliminations with a grenade launcher, 200 multi-kills with a grenade launcher, and 300 Filthy Lucre.
You can complete the guardian eliminations in either Gambit or Crucible. But there are more guardians in Crucible, so I’d go there, and the multi-kills can be done on any activity against PVEs.
Finally, acquire the Filthy Lucra from Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit, and Crucible.
Clean Getaway
Once you’ve ticked off all the boxes for completing Crime Spree, chat with Banshee-44 in the Tower, and he’ll give you the Witherhoard Catalyst.
