Does the data in your SharePoint site jumble? Are your teammates facing a hard time finding important info you uploaded on SharePoint?
Don’t worry. You can easily solve this problem by adding dropdown menus in the navigation bar.
This article will show you the quickest way to create a dropdown menu in modern SharePoint pages to help you navigate quickly.
So without further ado, let’s jump in.
Adding a dropdown menu in the modern SharePoint navigation pane is super easy. You can either use the Sub Link option or Drag and Drop the menu inside a parent menu to create drop navigation.
Here are the two methods to create drop navigation in a SharePoint site:
1. Use Sub Link
- Go to your SharePoint account.
- Click the Edit option.
(For team sites, you will find the Edit option on the left, but for communication sites, the Edit option is on the top page.)
- Click the + icon and Add the necessary sub-menu.
- Place the created sub menus next to your parent menu.
- Click the 3-dot icon next to your created label and choose the Make Sub link option.
- Select Save to save your changes.
2. Drag And Drop
If you find the Sub Link option quite lengthy and complex, just drag your created sub-menu and drop it to the parent menu and click the save button.
And after saving the changes, you will see a new dropdown icon next to your parrot menu.
However, if you want to remove the dropdown navigation from your SharePoint site, follow the steps below:
- Open any browser and log in to your SharePoint account.
- Select the Edit option from the navigation pane.
- Click the three dots next to the sub-menu.
- Select the Promote Sub link option and click Save.
After completing these steps, those sub-menus will convert into individual menus and appear in the navigation pane. But if you want to delete any sub-menu entirely, choose the Remove option instead of Promote Sub link.
When we create a SharePoint site on the go, we usually miss some information to add or make errors, creating many miscommunications among teammates. Also, you may need to update the information anytime after completing the dropdown menu.
So knowing to customize the SharePoint Dropdown menu is necessary knowledge.
As for myself, I typically create sub-menus as a Label and palace them under the perfect Parent menu first. It helps me to make a perfect navigation bar structure. And after that, I customize those tabs, insert the necessary link, and change the Menu style as needed.
If you want to customize the navigation bar Dropdown menu effectively, follow these steps:
- Open any browser and log in to your SharePoint account.
- To Change the Dropdown Menu style:
- Click the Settings icon from the top right corner.
- Select the Change the Look option.
- Choose Navigation and select Mega Menu or Cascading from the list.
- Click on the Save option to save changes.
- To change the sub-menu format:
- Select the Edit option from the navigation bar.
- Click the 3-dots icon next to the sub-menu.
- Choose the Edit option.
- Select a Label or Link as you see fit.
- Insert the URL if you choose the Link option.
- Select Ok > Save to save changes.
- To change the menu position:
- Select the Edit option from the navigation bar and Click the 3-dots icon.
- Choose Move Up or Move Down to change the menu position.
- Select the Remove option to delete the menu.
These are the ways to effectively customize the dropdown menu on both the Teams site and the Communication site in Microsoft SharePoint.
Conclusion
Teamwork is all about being connected, and SharePoint ensures it by sharing information across your company. However, you must organize that information, so everyone can quickly access it.
Creating and customizing dropdown menus is a great way to make an effective information structure. After applying the steps, I’m sure you’ve effectively added dropdown navigation in SharePoint.
Comment if you don’t understand any of the steps above. And for everything else, stick with 10scopes.
